Visual Argument

Above is a visual argument in opposition to abortion. Visual arguments surround us in life and online. In our daily lives, we are frequently confronted by advertising with very little linguistic content that is still highly persuasive. The Internet is a medium that relies on words and images working together to make meaning. Internet users must be particularly savvy consumers to understand how they are being persuaded by Web pages' linguistic and visual components. Internet users who are unable to detect how they are being swayed by visual rhetoric are still susceptible to this influence.

  1. This a perfect example of a visual argument on a topic that is currently very controversial. As people see this particular public service announcement or advertisement (for lack of a better word) a lot of thoughts, questions, concerns and emotions are evoked. From this visual argument we can clearly see that this person is against abortion with the depiction of the dead 4 1/2 month baby. Through this picture and brief paragraph this person who is "pro life" is opposing the views of those that are "pro choice" with a very strong argument.

  2. This visual argument targets the heart specifically. It makes people reconsider their view on abortion and such controversial issues alike.
